five rivers
"Five rivers is an inspired treasure grounded in the earth and in the present moment. It speaks truth. Heart to heart."
+ Helen Burns, author of Andal's Garland
This chapbook is a poetic offering of a rite of passage. Gathered from my journals over the past five years, this collection of 25 poems speaks to the themes that run through the Greek myth of Persephone and her journey through the transformative waters of the underworld.
Designed to echo a ceremony, the collection weaves through three stages of a rite of passage; separation, liminality, and incorporation (or in this case, autumn, winter and spring). It serves as a reminder that, though we sometimes need to enter the woods alone, there are many allies to guide us along the way, if only we have the presence of heart to receive them.
The poems are also accompanied by original ink artworks by my partner, Maxim Lewis, which were painted on Wurundjeri Country with water from the Yarra River.
Each chapbook is printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper.
